Site Analysis

The site visit, the first step in Site Analysis, had three main objectives: to verify data that had been collected to date, to document the character of the roadway, and to provide team members with a personal experience of the corridor landscape. Additionally, the team members analyzed the following components of the right-of-way to gain a perspective of the “big picture” issues affecting the highway corridor:

  • scenic resources and viewshed boundaries
  • historical elements
  • community settlement patterns
  • land use and ownership patterns
  • tourist attractions
  • highway structures

Site Visit Summary Report (3.7 MB)

Site Analysis also included the collection and review of relevant background information. This information was compiled into a Data Inventory and Analysis report, which provides data that is critical to understanding the key issues of the highway corridors. This report includes information on the current environment, such as topography, rest areas, and existing land use, as well as projected data, such as planned NDOT projects and proposed land use. The report draws initial conclusions about the meaning of this data for the corridor planning process.

Data collection will continue throughout the corridor planning process, but this report serves as an important first step in understanding both the current and future issues affecting the roads within the Central US 95, West US 6, and Central US 50 Corridor Plan.
